In one of my blogs, I alluded to conquering a weight issue. And do you know what? I did it! "Please tell me your secret," was what a sweet friend wrote as a comment on a picture of me on Facebook when I finally had the courage to face the "before" and the "after" photos.

Not sure what you want to be when you grow up? Join the club! So many spouses I have talked to about going back to school want to go, but aren’t sure what they are interested in. Even though I have always had an interest in criminal justice, I actually didn't start out studying that. When I finally decided to go back to school, I decided accounting was the career for me. That career aspiration lasted about three weeks into my first class. I like math, and it has always been a strong suit of mine, but I honestly didn't think accounting was quite what I thought it would be.
I work from home. Get your jealous ohhs and ahhs out now. Let’s get the big points out of the way first.
Yes, I have worked in my pajamas and even attended meetings with my boss sans proper attire – sorry Morgan.
Yes, I answer the phone and talk to people who I am not working directly with - my friends neeeed me!
Yes, I check Facebook, while at work and no one can see. Hah! Until my boss notices the way cute pics I posted of my kids’ first day of school.

Paying for college can seem overwhelming. I have been asked many times how to get started with the process of paying for college.
There are many financial assistance programs out there: scholarships, state & federal grants, paid internships and low-interest student loans. In many cases, students qualify for a financial aid package that includes a mix of these options. Here is the scoop on the resources I used and how difficult or easy they were to access.
Last year Congress announced that the military budget was going to be slashed. And it was. Almost instantly, military families could physically see where the cuts were made.
In Hawaii, the Child Development Center stopped offering hourly care to certain age groups. Respite care for families in the Exceptional Family Member Program was limited. The arts and crafts center on our base was shuttered. Permanently.
Now, those budget cuts may alter the course of our lives.
The Climb

Last week, I told you about the first part of our vacation, and now, as Paul Harvey said, "is the rest of the story." After our trip to Colorado, we came home for about 48 hours to regroup, do laundry and repack, and then we were off to the Great Wolf Lodge in Kansas City. If you have never been, you have to go! We had a blast!
Normally I try to be upbeat here, but things have happened in the last few weeks that have made me even more thankful that I am earning a degree. Five friends (well, three friends and two acquaintances) have recently experienced some personal setbacks in their life. Only one of those women has a degree and a career to fall back on and rebuild their life. The other three women have no clue what they are going to do.
After more than a decade of war in Iraq and Afghanistan it is common to meet women whose spouses who have deployed two, three even four or more times.
My own husband has 42 months of combined service down range. Deployments are so common in our house that news of an impending trip has lost its sting.
I no longer fear or loathe deployments. Instead, I pray they don’t fall during my Girl Scout troop’s annual camping trip because that, my friend, is a hard event to find a babysitter for.
